From bewildering arrangements to classic hits, we’re starting a new path down the road to dreaming of California! This year, to add to our ever mounting repertoire, we are now learning fun and fruity ‘California Dreamin” by The Mamas & The Papas. Know this song or some of the others we’ve mentioned?

This year we’ve taken on a challenge of such great enormity that it might be our finest achievement yet once we’ve finished. We are learning…drum roll please…Bohemian Rhapsody by the infamous Queen! The majority of choir members are excited and all geared up to learn this intriguing arrangement of such a well-known song whilst some are still being left a little nervous; we’ll keep up the practice so we can blow you all away come the summer concert! Sound like a challenge you’d like to try? Come on down for a free trial session or contact us with any queries.
Back again with her taste for music and a hectic lifestyle, our choir leader Emily Peasgood is returning to POW! Thanet again this year with a new piece; she said: “VOICE100 is a project I am developing to celebrate girls and women, 100 years since women were first granted the right to vote. My team and I are looking for 100 children and adults of any gender to contribute words or phrases that celebrate girls, women and equality…We are keen to visit youth clubs, scout and guide groups, residential homes and schools to undertake recordings. We are also looking to interview elderly people who have memories of family members that were involved in the suffragette movement.” BIGMOUTH chorus are also taking part in this project so if you’d like to come and see us then click here for more information or contact us with any queries.
Happy New Year! To celebrate surviving the festivities of the Christmas break, we will be back on Tuesday 9th January to begin preparations for July (we like to wish the year away!). You don’t need experience to take part and don’t even need to think you can sing! Our role is to support you in believing you can while having a great time. Get in touch if you or someone you know would like to join a fantastic and fun choir.
We have made it to our last meeting of the year after three venues, two events and a fantastic social meeting (and a partridge in a pear tree!). Last week saw the party of the year with our Family and Friends Charity Concert. We raised an amazing £416.43 for Oasis UK and everyone had a great time! We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and look forward to seeing everyone in January.
This is it! One week and we will be hosting the most festive event of the year! We are all super excited to be part of the BIGMOUTH Chorus Christmas Concert 2017, particularly as this year we are raising money for the Oasis UK charity for victims of domestic abuse. We will be gaily singing our jolly collection of seasonal tunes in addition to showing off some of the hits we have learnt so far this year; so come on down on Tuesday 12th December at 7:30pm to Dreamland, Margate for fun, laughs and musical merriment or contact us with any queries.
…or should we say Singers and Bell Ringers! Some of us are involved in an event in Canterbury. Organised by our wonderful leader and animateur, Emily Peasgood, the event is being run by Free Range who say, “Featuring specially commissioned pieces and interventions from the Seasalter Singers, the Bedford Handbell Ensemble, Henry Dagg’s virtuoso musical sawing and an interactive performance involving sweets from composer Jason Hodgson, this evening promises to be one of Canterbury’s finest Christmas-themed experimental music events. Prepare to be entertained, surprised, regaled and served… and be there with bells on.” So we are packing our bells and hope to see you there on Thursday 14th December at 7:30pm!
We finished and polished ‘Carol of the Bells‘ last night and the whole choir sounded great! You’re more than welcome to come to a free trial rehearsal on a Tuesday at 7:30pm or contact us with any queries.
We are incredibly proud of our choir leader and chief rubber chicken lover! Recently, Emily was nominated for not just once but twice for a British Composers’ Award! She said she was, “very pleased to announce that my works BIRDS and other Stories (2017) and Crossing Over (2016) have been nominated for British Composer Awards. The awards promote the art of composition, recognise the creative talent of composers and sound artists, and bring their music to a wider audience. They are unique in making contemporary music, jazz and sonic art the focus of their annual celebration. Founded by BASCA, The British Composer Awards are sponsored by PRS and presented in association with BBC Radio 3 who provide exclusive broadcast coverage of the awards. The ceremony will take place on 6 December at the British Museum.” We would like to wish Emily the best of luck for the awards ceremony in December.
No, not until Christmas Day! There’s 34 days until the most festive party of them all! That’s right, we are in full preparation for our Friends and Family Charity Concert in aid of Oasis UK Domestic Abuse Service on 12th December. We like to raise the Christmas spirit with a few festive classics such as ‘Fairytale of New York‘ and ‘Carol of the Bells‘ plus much more at the same time as raising money for a great cause. Sound good? Come down for a free trial rehearsal on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 or contact us with any queries; all we ask is enthusiasm and there are strictly no auditions!

At the end of last term we decided that choir members would choose every song we are singing this year and next by popular vote. After making a very long list of songs, the results are in! So far some of the highlights have been ‘California Dreamin‘ (The Mamas and The Papas) and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody‘ (Queen) with over 20 votes each! The choir have decided to bring back some of last year’s songs that they enjoyed too much to say goodbye to such as ‘Hallelujah‘ (Leonard Cohen) and ‘The Lamb‘ (John Tavener); but we have also branched out to some new songs featuring artists such as ABBA, Sting and The Bangles. Fancy singing any of these great hits and many more? Come down for a free trial rehearsal on a Tuesday night at 7:30pm at the Walpole Bay Hotel in Margate. If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
